>>>beauty banter: BEST BEAUTY THINGS OF 2014

LE GLOSSIER has been a little quiet on the beauty front of late, luckily however 2014 most certainly has not. It has been a bright and beautiful year of new brand launches, greater availability, and new gems of gorgeousness, beauty babes have been spoilt smitten with fun new beauty things. Here I round up some personal (but by no means all) highlights of the last twelve months.

The Best of Beauty Editors
2014 saw two very cleverly curated and constrained (and marketed) collections by beauty experts. Who better to analyse, conceptualise and create a range of beauty products than those who have experienced it all? I couldn't have been more excited when two of my very favourite beauty babes announced the launch of their new beauty brands. Australian Beauty Editor/Genius Zoë Foster Blake gave us Go-To Skincare and Emily Weiss, founder and CEO of super sharp beauty website Into The Gloss launched Glossier (yep, complete coincidence!). I will shamelessly admit I am a huge fan girl and totally idolize both
Zoë Foster and Emily Weiss, who are smart, sassy, seriously successful yet (seemingly) unceremonious. These two launched their beauty lines based on what they believed was much needed but currently missing on our bathroom shelves. For Zoë Foster Blake and Go-To that was five skincare products packed full of proven, effective ingredients designed to deliver results. For Emily Weiss and Glossier, it is four ingenious skincare-as-make-up products (a full, gushing review to come on these in the New Year), all with the aim of making your skin so insanely beautiful, instantly, that you can feel bare faced and brilliant.

More Mecca!
Beauty lover’s paradise, Mecca Cosmetica became an even (if it’s even possible) more exciting place to visit late this year when they had a price drop across all of their products. I sure felt far less guilty (and much more beautiful) when taking beauty staples from NARS and niche needs from Dr Dennis Gross et al up to the till for totaling. Shop on!

Shop around the globe
The launch of NZ Post You-Shop, a freight forwarding service that gives you a postal address in the US, UK and China has meant that girls galore have gotten their hands on beauty products hitherto unavailable on our distant New Zealand shores. Sure it’s no Sephora shopping experience but for those that just have to have the next Naked Palette or Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser, it’s a day-dream come true.

Lips are for Lovers
The love of lipstick reigned supreme in twenty fourteen. Along with some new matte lippies from MAC, pencil like lacquers, stains and velvets from Revlon those that love to get lippy and pucker up were spoilt for choice with some extensive new launches from the likes of NARS with their kaleidoscopic Audacious Lipstickcollection and Tom Ford with the chic and cheeky Lips & Boys. The Audacious collection features 40 lipsticks positively packed with pigment, with vibrant finishes and a cushiony feel. Tom Fords Lips & Boys scream classic Ford sex appeal with 50 miniature lipsticks in a range of shades and finishes named after famous and handsome men, past and present. The NARS lipsticks are also named after sexy screen queens, I am sure I’m not the first to think that the Tom Ford Boys and NARS girls would surely be a match made in makeup heaven.

Beautify with Beauticate
Another beauty darling I admire, Sigourney Cantelo (ex Vogue Australia Beauty and Health Director to name just one credential) launched her beauty website Beauticate.com.au. Beauticate is an elegant and sophisticated treasure trove of beauty “Who’s” and “How-To’s” from the gorgeous Sigourney and her friends and contemporaries. Beauticate also has the most beautiful and inspiring beauty Instagram account around, responsible for dozens of screen shots shimmering and shining in my phones photo gallery. Follow @beauticate for a feed full of fanciful beauty delights.

Bathing for beauty
I got over my hate of hot water in 2014 and found a new way (to me) to pamper, indulge and truly unwind by way of blissful twice weekly baths. As a self-serving beauty addict I like to up the ante on the regular bathing experience and enhance it so it includes a few beauty benefits. If you want to make yours extra special and satisfying, light your candle, make it your happy place and add 500 grams of Epsom salt (great for detoxifying, reducing bloating and making you feel all-around more light weight), a big scoop of coconut oil (for addictively soft, hydrated skin) and a few drops of lavender essential oil (to ensure to slip off for a perfectly restorative beauty sleep).
