>>>très bon: THE NEED FOR STEAM

Many a girl wants the opposite to what they have. A sweeping statement to be sure but how many times have you been told by a friend/colleague/stranger hat they adore your chocolate brown eyes or pin straight hair only for you to respond resentfully that you wish you could swap for some baby blues and curly waves.
My want for what I couldn't have was for my hair to be Swedish blonde and perfectly styled at all times (whether waved, curled or straightened) when genetics blessed me with dark brown hair with annoying cowlicks and unsightly kinks. This perusal for tress perfection meant I subjected my hair to daily assaults from hair irons and monthly attacks from powder bleach - leaving my hair all combinations of broken, split, dry and damaged. Being appearance pedantic, I never liked to leave the house without my hair looking less than perfect so this meant extra time and money invested in hair masques and styling to have it looking and feeling as soft and smooth as possible despite the disastrous state it was in behind the scenes. After three years of this torture my GHD hair straighteners, even when they were fresh, shiny and brand new, started to feel like they were frying my hair to smithereens, resulting in a frizzy, dry, puffy mess.

Luckily for my poor strands, around this time the professional, salon only hair care brand, L’Oreal Professionnel, better known for their high quality salon colour and luxurious take home treatments entered the styling tools category with an exciting new product concept – the SteamPod. Created in collaboration with Rowenta (a German small appliances company), the SteamPod styles hair with steam, similar to a modern iron. The styler is a bit more hefty than the streamlined GHDs (and the like) that we have become accustomed to but this is something you quickly get used to. The pod part of the name comes from the little pocket you fill with water, connected to the styler by  two cords, a power cord and a thicker, cotton covered cord, exactly like an iron cord. Just like an iron, the water travels up the cord and into the styler, and when you clamp the styler together (with your hair in between the heated ceramic plates) the steam is released. I like to think that the steam infuses hair with moisture (and any other nutrients in your hair products you have applied beforehand) and then seals it in. The result is hair that feels lusciously thick, strong, soft, and incredibly smooth and shiny - the complete opposite to how other stylers have made my hair feel in the past. Think of how great and fresh your clothes feel after a really good iron – that is exactly how your hair feels after a run through with the SteamPod. The steam is so effective that you can style larger sections at a time, cutting down on the time you spend styling. I also find that my hair style lasts a lot longer, hair holds it style and smoothness for much longer, meaning some days you can forgo restyling completely.

You can do everything you did with a GHD  (or the like) with a SteamPod, including curls and waves (although the cord does get a bit twisted, but this is easily remedied)  that will look and feel sensational. As mentioned, Steamy (as I so affectionately refer to it at home) is a bit more bulky that her slim competitor so those who like to travel light might find her a bit annoying to pack, but honestly, the finish the SteamPod gives you is so incomparable you may find, that like me, you never want to use anything else so just make the space. My hair almost physically trembles at the hairdresser when they use anything but the SteamPod on it, as nothing compares with the softness you get from Steamy.

There are also a small handful of hair products in the SteamPod line up that are just as fabulous as the tool. Included are two gorgeous smoothing creams (one for lightly sensitised hair, and one for very sensitised hair) which you can put in damp hair for added smoothness and heat protection, as well as a beautiful finishing serum to put on dry hair prior to SteamPod-ing. These two products are as good as the SteamPod itself, so I thoroughly recommend using these with the SteamPod, and even without as they will make your hair feel lush and soft.

So if you are in the market for a new heat styler then may I forcefully and passionately suggest you take in to account the glowing praise just above and consider a smart new SteamPod as your tool of choice. You will love it and your hair will thank you a million for it.
